What “420-friendly” actually means at our houses

Recreational cannabis has been legal for adults 21 and over in Colorado since 2014, but where you are allowed to use it is narrower than most visitors expect. Public consumption is still off-limits, and hotels almost always say no. Private property, with the owner’s permission, is where it is actually allowed. That permission is the whole point of a 420-friendly rental — everything else is just a house.

These are whole private homes, not a room in someone else’s place. You get the keys, the yard, and the hot tub, and nobody is going to knock on the door about the smell. There is no “ask the host and hope” step and no surprise smoking fee on the way out.
